Well, I think by now everyone knows how excited I am about the next year of Miss Pinup Australia. This will be my second year as sponsor/official photographer for the Pageant, but my first year sponsoring solo through Red Boots Photographic! I'm currently preparing for another amazing year of Pinups and Vintage fashion with great excitement! I'll be moving house in the next few months so I can expand the studio and have enough room for the steadily growing collection of Vintage and Reproduction pinup clothing, furniture and accessories. I'm hopefully doing a photoshoot with Boogie Bop Dames' Miss Pixie, the founder of MPA, and planning some new ink (my first big piece!) with the amazing Stephii W. Lots of changes, all of them exciting and challenging!!
There are big changes happening in Miss Pinup too, and I'd like to talk quickly about a few of them. This year for the first time there will be a category for younger pinup ladies; the Miss Dolly Deb Pinup category is now open to entrants who are aged 15-17 (must be 15 or over by March 2014). How exciting! I love how Miss Pinup brings together women of all ages, and all backgrounds, and it's particularly exciting to welcome the younger age group to the Pageant. Pretty much every woman I know struggled during this time in their lives, we're so bombarded by negative role models, pressures to define ourselves based on appearance, weight, height, sexual activity, and a host other completely superficial things. I completely understand now why my mother banned fashion magazines and tv now, although at the time I thought of grossly unfair!!
Getting some amazing younger women to build relationships with amazing older women is just the best antidote to all that I can think of! Women are beautiful at every age, and it's wonderful to be a part of something that celebrates that, and encourages us to support each other's beauty and loveliness as something unique to each person, and coming from a good character, lively imagination and life experience!
Another fantastic change is the inclusion of live heats that every entrant will participate in! These heats will not be as intensive as the semi-finals and final heats, so entrants should be able to put together their outfits from what they already have or can beg, borrow or buy cheaply. This will make the pageant much more accessible and fun, as well as bringing another amazing Vintage event to our communities! At this stage the live events WILL be dependent on how many entrants there are, and will be held in the capital cities; as much as we all love rural areas, this is a very big country, and we can't get everywhere. If your state does not have sufficient entrants, you'll all be included in the live heats of the state nearest you.
I'll be posting more about Miss Pinup over the next few months, as well as doing a few little interviews with some of our amazing Qld winners from last year. I'd like to answer a few questions, offer hints and tips for 2014 entrants, and demonstrate how this amazing pageant is for everyone, not just people who already have modelling or performance experience! Please inbox me if you have any questions about the pageant, as I'll do my best to get them answered! I hope you've enjoyed the pictures of some of past contestants, I loved working with this amazing women and love watching them blossom and grow in the new confidence they gained throughout the pageant! They are; last year's QLD Miss Neo Pinup Flossie le Fleur, Qld entrant and one of my favourite people to work with ever Miss Mae Em, and Miss Perfect Pinup 2011-2012 Miss Lila Luxx, currently Headmistress at Bombshell Burlesque and Beauty Academy.
